Unless you have a formal HR system then keeping the necessary records for employees usually involves lots of Excel spreadsheets, Word documents – and in many cases even with a formal system recording some things like Right to Work documents and expiry dates may not be supported. This is where the flexibility of SharePoint is very useful to be able to cost effectively plug the gaps you have, or provide some formality where none exists. SharePoint’s user security features means that you can provide users with just the level of access they require – Users can be prohibited from access, have Read Only access or Add and Edit access depending on requirements – something that is not always possible with Word and Excel files.
In addition to managing records for employees, SharePoint also provides a great platform for managing recruitment, storing candidate CV’s records of interview, follow up and outcomes. The database then becomes very useful when reviewing previous applicants when looking to fill newly arising posts.
